Mateo Alvarez (Element) is a young Afro-Latino from the Bronx whose life changes when he discovers extraordinary control over the elements—earth, fire, water, air, electricity, and more.

Thrown into a world of deadly enemies and hidden truths, Mateo’s story isn’t just about power—it’s about legacy and a complicated family history that forces him to confront who he is and where he comes from. 

As the stakes rise, Element becomes the hero the world needs—caught between inner conflict and an escalating war, including a looming threat working from the shadows, the most feared being on the planet: Entropy. 

Mayor Dylan Michican is the sitting Mayor of New York City—a calm, commanding public “protector” who sells law and order to a frightened city. But behind the podium, he is Mayor Abyss, a superpowered shadow-entity who pairs supernatural darkness with the full weight of government: policy, propaganda, surveillance, and enforcement.

Abyss governs through fear, operating as Entropy’s city-level lever while hiding a secret that defines his evil: he purchased his power by sacrificing his own family to Entropy—including Shade (his biological daughter) and her mother, whose death and experimentation become a foundational atrocity of the Orphanage.

In the shadows, Abyss weaponizes darkness as a tangible force—manifesting tendrils, restraints, and monstrous forms, warping environments into panic and “unfair fights.” Yet his most dangerous ability is legitimacy: he can criminalize heroes, deploy F.I.R.E. agents, and unleash M.E.T.R.O. as spectacle and intimidation.

His fatal weakness is the same mask that empowers him: once exposed publicly as a monster—and once the truth about Shade is revealed—his institutional armor collapses, turning the “Shadow Mayor” into a desperate tyrant with nothing left to lose.
